SOPHIE ULLRICH (*1990, DE)

Ullrich’s painting is characterized by comic-book-style figures, fragmented depictions of the body, and a visual language that oscillates between consumer aesthetics, advertising, and digital visual culture. Her works combine humorous, often narratively charged scenes with a precise, technically accomplished painting style and reflect on questions of identity, desire, and media representation in a present shaped by social media.

Her works have been shown internationally in numerous solo and group exhibitions. Among her most important solo exhibitions are All sauce, no shrimp (2024, Piero Atchugarry Gallery, Miami), Heute kein WLAN (2022, Evelyn Drewes Galerie, Hamburg), as well as exhibitions in Los Angeles, Luxembourg, and Uruguay. Recent exhibition participations include the major retrospective exhibition Die Große at the Kunstpalast Düsseldorf (2024), Painting in the Global Present (2024, Italy), as well as exhibitions in Berlin, Amsterdam, Zurich, Paris, and Hong Kong. In 2024, Ullrich was awarded the Artists’ Promotion Prize as part of the renowned exhibition “Die Große” in Düsseldorf, which comes with a cash prize of 7,500 euros. In addition, she received an artist-in-residence fellowship from the Piero Atchugarry Gallery in Uruguay in 2023.
